My Professional Qualifications

BEd (Hons) Primary and Secondary Mathematics

Graduating in 1994 with a Bachelor of Education Honours degree from the University of the West of England, I was unique in training on both the primary and secondary mathematics education pathways.

MSc (Neuroscience and Education)

In 2019,  I  graduated from the University of Bristol with distinction in MSc (Neuroscience and Education). My specialisms include mathematics cognition and learning, dyscalculia, working memory and the science of learning.

Teaching Experience

Primary and Secondary Schools, Hong Kong and UK

My teaching career has spanned international and local secondary schools in Hong Kong, a deputy headship of mathematics at a secondary school in Jersey, Channel Islands, assessment lead for a private day and boarding school in London, and mathematics lead for a primary school in Bristol, UK.

Universities

On completing my MSc in Neuroscience and Education, I was employed by the University of Bristol as the research associate on the Science of Learning for Initial Teacher Education (SoLfITE) project and as the teaching assistant for the 'Cognitive Neuroscience in Classroom Practice' module on the MSc (Education) programme at the University of Bristol.

In 2020, I wrote and taught the MA Inclusive Education, 'Identifying and Addressing Difficulties Learning Mathematics' module at Bath Spa University. The module focused on developing an understanding of the science of learning and building strategies to support neurodivergent learners, including pupils with dyscalculia, dyslexia and working memory difficulties.

Private Tutoring

UK Sats, 11+, 13+, GCSE, iGCSE and IB MYP

My exceptional experience of teaching and leading maths in both primary and secondary settings enables me to provide a unique insight into maths learning across the developmental phases.

For many years, my bespoke tutoring services continued alongside my classroom and leadership practice. It is now my sole priority, and whether lessons take place at 'The Study' or online, they are wholly tailored to the needs of each individual student. Every tuition session is designed to support and challenge learners, unravel misconceptions, reduce anxiety, and develop confidence and depth of understanding.
